Why have innocent Americans been harmed with IBD, or inflammatory bowel disease, injuries? Because a negligent manufacturer sold defective drug Accutane despite its being the clear cause of IBD injuries such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Thus, an Accutane lawsuit may be needed to press for a victim’s legal right to fair compensation for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
These defective drug injuries occur because Accutane and generic Accutane feature active ingredient Isotretinoin. Though it can stop acne, it also starts a lifelong battle with debilitating diseases of the bowels and digestive tract. That battle may involve surgery or repeated surgeries to treat, but never fully cure. In fact, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis have no cures.
Even so, IBD treatment can be pursued -- as can an Accutane lawsuit or defective drug lawsuit on behalf of innocent victims. They should not have to pay the costs of their injuries due to the negligence of manufacturer Roche Pharmaceuticals. Instead, Roche should pay -- and has been paying already, via Accutane lawsuits that have prevailed in court for a total of $56 million for just a handful of plaintiffs.
Meanwhile, victims can attempt to treat an IBD treatment by suppressing the digestive tract’s abnormal inflammatory response and allowing inflamed intestinal tissues to heal. Such IBD treatment may lead to a lessening of pain in the abdomen, as well as a decrease of the diarrhea that often ensues after an IBD strikes. And if this IBD treatment controls inflammation, other treatment can be applied to that remission in order to try to keep it going.
IBD treatment also may mean trying specific drugs, starting with milder drugs and then moving to more potent medications.
Accutane sufferers dealing with Accutane side effects such as Crohn’s Disease could be helped by an antibiotic, or perhaps then trying more potent corticosteroids, which ease pain in the abdomen more quickly, along with diarrhea and other symptoms of inflammation.
But even corticosteroids may not do the trick, which then leads to trying immune modifying agents that can take two to three months to make a substantial impact. Infliximab, which is used to treat Crohn’s disease, is one such drug. Others include prednisone and budesonide. That leaves only experimental agents as a last-ditch effort to treat IBD.
If you or a family member has been struck by ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease or another IBD since taking Accutane or generic Accutane, alert your doctor at once. But also notify a defective drugs attorney or lawyer in order to assess your prospects for an Accutane injury lawsuit. Whether IBD treatment succeeds or not, an Accutane lawsuit can gain financial compensation for victims, as well as some degree of peace of mind.
